Our winery is a family business...
…which was originally founded as a cooperage by Friedrich Stix. In 1948, he leased a cooperage in Matzen, as the demand for wooden barrels was significantly greater in the Weinviertel region than in his home region of Mostviertel. Initially, the native of Säusenstein (Ybbs) pursued winemaking solely in his spare time, and it only later developed into his main occupation.
In the mid-1980s, the business was gradually taken over and run by Manfred Stix. Since 2017, he has also been passing on his viticultural expertise to his son, combining it with his son's knowledge to jointly produce excellent products.
Philipp Stix has been running the business since 2025.
Weingut Stix relies on high-quality products...
…and nature-oriented production methods. In addition to a variety of wines, we also produce grape must, young wine, sparkling wine and grape juice. We also operate a traditional wine tavern – the Heuriger Turmstüberl – in Matzen.
We work with great heart and passion in harmony with nature. This is a fundamental prerequisite for producing a fresh, fruity wine of the highest quality with distinct varietal character.
The wine village of Matzen...
…lies approximately 45 minutes north-east of Vienna. The Matzner Hügelland offers optimal conditions for fruity white wines and full-bodied red wines due to its Pannonian climate and mineral-rich soils.
BIO(logically)
For many years, we have both our winery and the Organic farming These have been converted. This type of management is the basis for a sustainable and responsible approach to our environment, as well as the production of high-quality products in harmony with nature. Biological processes are exploited here. The valuable assets of „soil and water“ are to be preserved for future generations.
In an organic vineyard, only naturally occurring substances are used to protect the vines from diseases. There is a complete absence of readily soluble mineral fertilisers, synthetic and systemic pesticides such as insecticides, herbicides and pesticides. Green manure crops with legumes provide the vines with the necessary nutrients. They also bring ecological diversity, offering an ideal habitat for many beneficial organisms such as insects, worms and butterflies.
We are members of the state-approved inspection body „Austria-Bio-Garantie“ and as a controlled Member establishment AT-BIO-302 We also receive an annual certificate for this.
