In 1948, he leased a cooperage in Matzen, as the demand for wooden barrels was significantly greater in the Weinviertel region than in his home region of Mostviertel. Initially, the native of Säusenstein (Ybbs) pursued winemaking solely in his spare time, and it only later developed into his main occupation.

In the mid-1980s, the business was gradually taken over and run by Manfred Stix. Since 2017, he has also been passing on his viticultural expertise to his son, combining it with his son's knowledge to jointly produce excellent products.
